From groundworks to the final finish

One building from the first dig to opening day: the new Link Barn at The Old Barn Garden Centre, Dial Post.

  1. Blockwork foundations for the Link Barn with the Old Barn behind
    Stage 01 of 06: Groundworks

    Groundworks and foundations

We cleared the old single-storey toilet block and set out the foundations for the Link Barn, between the coffee house and the Old Barn.

  2. Glulam timber frame of the Link Barn standing against the sky
    Stage 02 of 06: Frame

    The glulam frame goes up

Exposed glulam columns and beams went up next. They echo the oak superstructure of the Old Barn next door.

  3. Walls of the Link Barn closed in around the glulam frame, with high slot windows
Stage 03 of 06: Walls and roof

    Closing in the frame

We closed in the walls and roof. The roof takes its pitch and proportions from the Old Barn, and zinc cladding finishes the outside.

  4. Underfloor heating pipes laid across the Link Barn floor under the timber-lined roof
    Stage 04 of 06: Floor

    Underfloor heating

Underfloor heating pipes went down across the whole floor of the barn, ready for the finishes.

  5. Bespoke timber steps with built-in lighting being fitted in the Link Barn
    Stage 05 of 06: Fit-out

    Bespoke fit-out

Bespoke timber steps with built-in lighting link the two levels. New toilets and circulation space fill the rest of the barn.

  6. The finished Link Barn seating area under its exposed glulam frame
    Stage 06 of 06: Complete

    Open for business

The finished Link Barn adds around 155m² of seating, shared by the coffee house and the Old Barn.

Mayberry Garden Centre and the Tates Hyundai and Vauxhall Showroom

Two projects side by side in Portslade. We extended Mayberry Garden Centre, and turned the former allotment site next door into the new Tates Hyundai and Vauxhall Showroom and service centre.

Trusted with historic buildings

We work with specialised materials and complex installations in modern and historic buildings. At Wilbury Gardens we took out the original stained glass, cleaned and repaired it, then sealed it inside 24mm double-glazed units to improve its thermal performance.

What our clients say

1 / 3

Jurial transformed our dilapidated 1950s bungalow into a modern living space tailored to our specific needs and lifestyle. They worked closely with both us and our architect throughout the project, ensuring that all our requirements were met.

Thanks to their strong relationships with skilled, professional tradespeople, the work was completed to a high standard, and the entire project was delivered on time. Their customer service was consistently responsive, and any issues were dealt with promptly.

Mr & Mrs Chadburn, Hurstpierpoint1950s bungalow transformed into a modern home

We were really impressed with the work carried out by Jurial, for our recent loft conversion and refurbishment. The quality of the workmanship was excellent, and they were reliable, professional and easy to deal with throughout.

I particularly liked that one of the owners is a woman and is actively involved in the business and the projects. It was refreshing to see such a hands-on approach, and she was friendly, approachable and very knowledgeable.

We would happily recommend them to anyone looking for a professional and trustworthy builder.

Mrs Highfield, HoveLoft conversion and refurbishment

I have used Jurial construction both for my home, my mum’s home and my business and they are absolutely superb! They have done groundwork, major constructions/fire doors etc and decoration as well as surveys and each time they are super efficient, friendly and so professional. I wouldn’t go anywhere else!

Large projects with the personal touch of a family business

Richard Johnson, Contracts Director, and Julie Lees, Finance and Procurement Director, founded Jurial Construction in September 2004. They still hold to the same aim: a first-class service all the time, every time.

They see people as the most important part of the business. Their relationships with clients, designers, architects and contractors rest on trust, honesty and loyalty, and many clients have come back to us with more work over the years.

Health and safety is part of every build: we identify hazards, control risk, and plan, monitor and review our processes at every stage, and we hold our sub-contractors to the same standard.
